Six lives' wore lost in tho West -W yalong mine disaster. Tho names of the victims aro : Godfrey Mayiiiro, Robert Nayin, John Navin, Rupert Nicholson, John Mulhall, and William Cunningham. The disaster was quite unexpected, and the mine was not suspected to contain foul air. It is supposed that an explosion of rakarock released a pocket of foul, gases, and the inrush must have been sudden.
Most of the bodies wore found a few feet from where tho men had been working. Cunningham, with A lie Wellington, managed to crawl out of the foul zone and wero rescued with difficulty, but Cunningham afterwards succumbed. iWellington is in tho hospital in a serious condition.
The funeral of the victims was the largesb ever known in the district. All tho victims, except Cunningham, left widows and young families dependent on thorn.
