(Received Jan 15, 9.10 p.m.) Sydney, Jau 15. The men injured at West Wyalong are recovering. An inquest on the victims has been opened. It is'stated that just beforo the disaster a shot had been put in, and tho men withdrew. Apparently the old workings were broken into, causing a rush of gas. Wellington escaped its full force, through being in a cross-cut. The alarm was given to a brother of one ot tho deceased who was working in a different' part of the mine. Tho manager', with a relief party, went down and found the other parties safe, although suffering considerably from the eifects of the gas.

The rescuers removed the bodies to tiie surface, where a sorrowful scene was witnessed. The wives of tho deceased men had to be forcibly removed to their homes.
