NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board was concluded on Tuesday. Present: Messrs W. N. Franklyn (chairman), G. 13. Shepherd, W. Lock, J. L. Munson, J. W. Fair, L. D. Easton, J. U. Benke, F. W. Smith, and A. T. Iviagmiiity.

The Inspectors reported that they had examined the following schools, and the results were:—St. Mary's Boys', satisfactory to good; Cabragh House, Zephyr Lodge, St. Mary's Girls', and St. Mary's High School, satisfactory.

In regard to the question oi :.tail"ing the Nelson Girls' School tho Inspectors recoinmeuded that the suggestion of the Committee he acceded to, but this h not to establish a precedent. It was resolved that application be made to the? Department for is grant for the establishment of a school ;\i Tutaki, Braebnni.

The Secretary of the North Canterbury Education Hoard forwarded a copy of a resolution passed at its 1:s.•-■ t meeting to the effect that in connection with any addition or alteration to Acts affecting Education Boards, the latter should be informed in time to allow them to give expression of opinion thereon.—lt was resolved to endorse the resolution.

An application from Kiwi for a variation in tho school holidays by having two weeks at Chiistmas and five weeks at hop-picking was pTaiited.

Tho resignation of Miss K. C. Jones, soJo teacher nt Gordon r.f'in.-i!, was accepted. As the attendance ;:t this school had diminished it was rpBolved to consult the parents as to continuing the school as a household school. It was resolved to hold the December meeting of the Board on Mo:id;iy and Tuesday, December 15th ;;ntl 19th.

An application from the Riwaka School Committee for a gnnt for :m addition to the Riwaka school was referred to the Inspectors.

The Motucka Committee applied for a grant to make a culvert r.hrn^ the school frontage.—Resolved t'i::t a sum not exceeding £4 be granted.
