LIGHT HORSES

As usual this section provided tho public with interest and amusement throughput the day. The entries in most of the classes fell short of list ■year, nevertheless competition was keen. The pony classes were exceptionally good, and the judges commented very favourably upon the prize winners, especially mentioning Mrs. L. Mullany's Nancy. In the buggy pairs Messrs. Newman Bros, secured first prize with a very fine pair. There were only four entries in the tandem teams, Messrs. Newman Jiros again being successful with a splendid team. In the best driver of tandem, Mr John Biggar, of Stoke, secured first and second prizes. In the amateur class, Mr. J. W. Hagen • of Spring Grove, was first with Mr F l'owler, of Wakefield, second. The appearance of the bakers', butchers' and grocers' dolivry carts was also highly spoken of by the judges. Hie competition for the best jumper over five- fair hunting fences attracted five entries, Mr. F. C. Bachelor's Sandridge, which has been an unsuccessful competitor at the show for some

• years past made no mistakes, and scored a popular win. Mr. W. S. 'Booth's Nabob was second. In the ladies jump over three flights of hurdles, there were also five competitors, Miss Mabel Trask, on Mr. Stringer's Lady Vogol negotiating the jumps at the iirst attempt without touching, ard gaining the decision. Miss Macmahon on Sandridgo and Miss Roughton on Queenie were sent away agaiu for second place, when the form >r took the jumps in fine style and secared second place. In the pony jumps the competitors were ovenly matched and it was only after the placed riders had been sent over the hurdles several times that the first and second riders were placed. Three four-in-hand teams mado an imposing show as they drove round the show ring, and were very favourably commented on. The first prize winnrs, Messrs. Newman Bros.-were warmly applauded when the decision was announced. Mr. Haaso with an attractive looking team of greys was second. The hack classes attracted large entries, and the quality of the horses generally was of a high standard. The judges awarded the prize for the best girl rider under sixteen to Miss Grace Barrett, Miss Mabel Trask and Miss Emms being the runners-up.
