STATEMENT BY MR HOLMAN.
ADJOURNMENT PENDING BYE-
ELECTIONS
(Received July 26, 9.5 p.m.)
Sydney, July 26,
When the Assembly met this afternoon aftor the Cabinet had discussed tho situation, Mr Holrnan made a statement. He said that while the Ministers recognised that ordinarily a bye-election was not sufficient ground for suspending the business of Parliament, it would be recognised as obviously impossible that business could proceed until the two present vacancies had been filled. The Government therefore proposed to ask the House to grant supply to-night, and deal )vith no other business, but adjourn for a sufficient period to allow the bye-elec-tions to bo decided. He proposed to move to-morrow for an adjournment until August 22nd. Mr Wade, in a brief speech, declared that under the conditions which had arisen there was no course open to the Government but to resign. Mr Storey opposed the adjournment. Mr Holrnan gave notice of the adjournment motion for to-morrow, andthe House proceeded with tho business.
