A Bill which has teen introduced into the New South Wales Legislature contains a provision that the responsibility of dec ding whether death sentences shntll be carried out shall b^ vested in the Judges of the Supreme Cotnt Theieis little wander that a provision of this sort should bj bitterly s>ssaled. To remove the prsrogativa from the Crown "f deciding whether clemency shall be extended is t j deny entirely the existence of mejcy, and to destroy a principle which has for centuries been recognised as an important element iv British law.
