A meeting of the Riwaka Presbyterian Cliuicn Committee was "held in tiio church on Thursday evening. rihe treasurer's statement showed that the nuances were in a satisfactory condition, liie net profit of tho recent concert amounted to £8 9s !M. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded all those who had assisted at the concent, especially to Mr. French, the organiser. It was agreed to pay oif the balance, £10, owing on the manse. The building is now free of debt, antl this must be considered, a highly satisfactory state of. affairs. It" was decided to procure two dozen new hymn books ' for church use. Mr. French reported that the Dramatic Society (Motueka)' intended giving an entertainment at Riwaka on Wednesday evening, part of the proceeds to go towards a new organ. This being the last meeting of the committee for the present year, Mr, French thanUed the members for working so harmoniously together, and also for the assistance they had given him. A motion congratulating Mr., and Mrs. Drummond on the celebration of their golden wedding was carried.with great applause, and Mr. Drummond suitably acknowledged the compliment. The Riwaka Central Tennis Club held an enjoyable social on Wednes-
day evening last. There was a very good attendance, and the function proved an unprecedented success. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and reflected great credit on the committee of management, Messrs M. Askew, 0. Chittenden, P. Bate and C. Jenkins. The onerous 3 duties of M.C. were in tho capable f hands of Messrs L. Budden and C. i Cederman, and the excellent music - provided by Mr. H. Williams left 5 nothing to be desired. The ladies > committee, consisting of Mesdames ;I M. Askew, A. McLean, C. Jenkins, i and P. Bate, provided a bountiful sup- " I per of choice refreshments, which ' | were greatly appreciated. Dancing |! was kept up till the early hours, when ; j all dispersed well pleased with their I evening's enjoyment. . ! | The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. ' i Alex. The company sat down to a siimp- j twins repast, after which eongratula-! | Tory speeches were made by Messrs j ; French, McMahon and Irwin. Mr A. ! Drummond responded on behalf of . Mrs. Drummond and himself, thankj ing the speakers for the kind things said, and also the company for tho ; honour done them. Amongst the gath- ; ering was. Mr. D. Drummond (Moj tueka) who arrived in Nelson in tho ! first immigrant ship, the Perthshire, in February 1842. Tin's veteran pioneer was_ accorded three hearty cheers. The festivities were continued in the evening, wlion the young people had an enjoyable time.
