Tlic usual meeting of the Literary and Debating Society was held in the St'ite school room last week. Mr. E. Krlridge, presided. The. business of the evening was a paper on the life of James Uarfield. by Mr. P. Battey This proved, ss was expected, a most interesting subject, it being dealt with in an off:otive manner, and was much .appreciated by all present. Mr. Battey was liPiirtily thanked. As there was sorrc time to spare, the rest of the evening was devoted to questions, and i this proved a most enjoyable way of finishing up the evening. The next mooting will be? occupied with a <lvh.ite, "That reading is of grp.Ttpr oducationnl _\ nluc than observation." Mrs Croop will load for observation and Mr N. il. Tnnm'cliffe for reading. The half-yearly summoned meeting of the Mansion of Peaco Lodge was lif'tl on Saturday evening last, Bro W. Ivlcomrmrt, N.G., presiding. The P.G.M. Bni v T. W. Hagen, ami P.I). CM. Bm. W. Thompson paid an official visit and eddressed the members on various matter of interest to the Order, and were accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
