' , The Council had done, as silly thiv><rs in connection with the square in tho ' past as they "could, and they did not 1 want" to make themselves any more ridiculous. Councillor <3apes said that on Sunday night, owing to the noise from tho bodies holding meetings in the square, and the din of the music, Dean Harper had had to stop his sermon at the Cathedral, as he could not be heard. The Mayor said that he was very ' much pained to see tho Salvation Army leading the mutiny against the Council. No one sympathised more than

he did with the Army, but it was the Army's duty to set an example and be law-abiding. Because tho Army had set the Council at defiance- the Socialists had done the same thing. Tho Council must remain firm and prosecute offenders, otherwise the,y would be the puppets of those holding meetings in the square. The motion was agreed to.
