MEETING OF GENERAL COM-

MTTTEE.

A meeting of the general committeeof the Children's Hospital Ward Fluid was held at tho Council Chamber yesterday afternoon, there being present: Mesdames Fell (in the chair) Pet tit, Saxon, Leininer, Millington, Watson, Baigent, R. Allan; Misses M Atkinson, Bisley; Messrs Wallace Snodgrass, G. A. Edmonds and Foster. Tho .secretary (Mr. Snodgrass) road a letter he-had received from Mr. Geo Macmahon, of Tapawera, stating that at the opening of a county bridge at Sherry (Cr. Drummond performing the ceremony) Mrs. Drummond cut tho ribbon, and the suggestion was made that the ribbon should be cut up and sold as souvenirs of the occasion, the proceeds to go to the Children's Hospital Ward Fund. Tho suggestion was acted upon, the sum of £2 4s 9d being the result. It Avas resolved to thank those concerned for the welcome donation. Mr. Edmonds (treasurer) reported that £14 7s 4d had been added to tho fund since the last meeting of the committee, th 0 total now standing at £285 14® 2d. The- sums received were £9 18s collected by Mesdames Pettit and Watson, £2 4s 9d from Sherry bridge opening souvenirs, 4s from Matakitaki school, and £2 from the Garrison band. Mr. Snodgrass said that all returns in connection with the "Dr. Bill" performance had not yet been made, but it was anticipated that about £16 would be cleared. The- sub-commit-tee appointed to arrange for Mr. Foster's concert had decided upon the Theatre Royal, and Tuesday, April 11th as a date of the concert. Tickets would be issued at 3s, 2s, and ls 3 and a groat success was anticipated. •■ Mr. Foster said that a good performance would bo given and he advised getting out with the tickets early. The programme would not bo a cassical one, nor would there be any music hall stuff, but a good strong programme of popular concert ballads. A couple of male quartettes were being arranged for and he hoped that Herr Leininer would assist by getting the Savage Club orchestra to assist, while ho was also endeavouring to a soprano from Wellington to lake part, and if the lady came ho was suro that the audience would be more than pleased. He urged a ilittle enthusiasm in pushing the concert and promised" a great success. Mr. Foster was thanked for his assistance, and various matters of .letnil in connection with th c concert w< to settled. The plans prepared by Mr. Wm. Moniker for tho proposed ward wb tabled and considered. After considerable discussion it was resolved ll at Mesdames Fell and Watson, as -.»m----bers of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, lay before that Board «o.v. era! suggestions regarding the plan I lie plan as prepared provides for the ward to be erected at th 0 extreme western end of the hospital, a, situation winch would secure the maximum of sunlight and fresh air.
