ChristGhui'Gh, March 9. At last evening's meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union the secretary, Mr W. G. Garrardj produced a letter .received by him since the. hst meeting 'of the union, from Mr 1"). W. Burba.uk, manager of tbe American University football team which recently toured Now Zealand, notifying liim of the team's safe return home. The writer went on to say: "Rugby prospects ffir the coming year are hue indeed; the University of California has opened her Rugby season, and we open our seawm on Thursday next, September Ist, with a big rally attended by the whole University, where speeches will be made, redh'ro burned, etc. Rugby throughout the State is on the boom ; two more high schools liave taken it up around San Francisco, leaving one out of six yet to come; into the fold. Also the University of Southern California in Los Angeles has just sent its manager up to make arrangements for a game, and that is the entering wad go in a bunch of five small colleges around Los Angeles. Also the high schools of the central part of the State have formed a league and there will be, a series of games for the championship with the two schools above mentioned."
