TRIES TO COMMIT SUICIDE

Dui-edin, March 7. A rathor uncommon type of boy, hAonpng to a rcspeotablp family in the city, appeared at the Juvenile Court to-day, charged with attempting to commit suicide. It appeared that the youngster liad been disobeying his parents' instruction to seek work and ho persisted in staying about the house reading. Yesterday, his mother took his book from .him, whereupon the boy smashed a window with an axe and ufrnt into the garden and pulled tip cabbages. Then he took a rope, climbed a tree and set about to hang himself; but the neighbours prevented him. In the evening the father thrashed the boy, who, after getting loose, went to the. tree where the. rope was Wt in position, put his hand in the loop, and dropped. The mother found him at a critical moment, and held him up till .help came. To-day the boy, who is fourteen years of age, appeared with a livid mark round his neck. He- was committed to the industrial school.
