METHODIST CONFERENCE

Christchurch, March 7. At the. afternoon sitting of the Methodist Conference it was decided to draw the attention of Church membbrs to the fact that tire legal name of the Church no longer contained the word Wesleyan, but was at present the Methodist Church of Australasia in New ZoaJand. The Committee set up a report regarding the centenary of Methodism, that they had no recommendation to make, and pointed out that the centenary of the introduction of Christianity into New Zealand would be celebrated in 1914, and that it was inadvisable to han't' two such celebrations close together.—Adopted. It was decided that every five years, commencing in 1911, each 'trust board should make for its district Synod a return of the capital vaf.up'of the properties under its control, showing the. unimproved value and the value of improvements, each Synod to report to the Conference.
A Committee was set up to collect evidence regarding the working of the Now South Wales, or Nelson or any other such system of Bible reading in schools, and report to the next Conference.
A-motion was agreed to to the effect that the time is ripe for provision being mad;:' for the New Zealand University granting degrees in Divinity. Another motion was agreed to affirming the belief of the Conference that the Reformation was a return to apostolic doctrine and polity. The invitation of Pitt street to hold tin? next Conference there! on February 9th, 1912, was- accepted and after passing several votes of thanks tile Conference rose.
