A London message says that thousands attended the funeral of the Rt. Hon. Robert Spenco. Watson., P.C, the veteran Liberal politician and author, at Newcastle. Sir. Asquith (Premier) sent a letter paying a warm tribute to the devotion of the deceased to freedom and all groat causes.
A. Cairo press wire says that the German Crown Prince has arrived there on liis way homewards from his Indian tour.
Mr. J. C. McVay, ex-Mayor of Napier, who has been appointed to the vacancy on Hip Racing Commission caused by tho resignation of Mr. (». P. Donnelly (Hawke's 15ay), through ill-health, has had a long association with sport. He has been s member of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club for many years, and he is the representative of the Hawke's Bay country clubs on the New Zea'.and Racing Conference.
