Time lmin 19 2-5. A field of seven horses faced the starter in the Maiden race, Rose Herald and Ocean Wave being the most fancied. Tarakohe, Rose Herald and Warrigal hopped off in the front, and the first .named led all the way, winning easily. Rose1 Herald made, a fast run, and stalling off a challenge* by Ocean Bird, ran into second placo. Warrigal died away and finished last. Grayling was the only defection from the thirteen acceptors in the Birch Hill Trot. Corbett Child soon overhauled the limit horses, and commanding a long load, won with the greatest of ease. Storm Cloud beat King Teddy for second place by two lengths. The race for the First Class Hack, known as the Takaka Cup, was an interesting race. Pure Rose got well away, with Viking close up. Passing the stand Pure Rose was still in front, with "Wild Bird second, Curious Rose, Flashstone, and Viking following in that ordiv.1, the last named having fallen back to last. This order was maintained until the finish, Pure Rose gaining the verdict by a length, and repeating her performance of last year. Curious Rose got badly away. In the Rototai Trot Handicap The Crab was mado a warm favourito, while Corbett Child, also had many supporters. Tarawera made the pace for the first round, running neck and neck with The Crab. The pair were still leading in the socond round, with Corbt'tt Child and Oaktree some distance away, while the others were strung out. Tarawera broke up, and The Crab appeared to havo the race in hand, but Oaktree, who was splendidly ridden by W. Martin, came very fast, and snatched a victory on the post by half a head. Tarawera was third, with Corbett Child fourth. Flashstone and Warrigal withdrew from the Welter, leaving seven starters. Tarakohe and Wild Bird were the first to show out, and then Killarney rushed to the front, followed by Pure. Rose. The Cup winner then overhauled the others, and was never headed, winning by a length, Rose Herald getting into third place. In the Publicans' Handicap Ocean Bird got the best of the. start, and wjis never headed, winning comfortably by two lengths. Bridegroom finished a. length in front of King's Wreath. After tltreequarters of an hour's delay at the post, and a millibar of false starts, a field of six were despatched in the farewell Handicap. Bridesmaid, Rose Herald, and Curious Rose went away together, Killarney, Flashstone and Lord Brassey being in the second trio. Bridesmaid soon showed out several lengths ahead, and Killarney displaced Rose Herald and Curious Rose. This order was maintained round the back, when Curious Rose, who was second to last, put in a good run, and overhauling the others, headed Bridesmaid when e.nterin" the straight, and won comfortably. 0
