Replying to tlie representations of tho Canterbury Autoanobilp, Association rogardiug th? necessity for clrctnc signals at level railway crossings and the cutting of trees obscuiiiig the view of crossings., Mr T. Ronayne, the uenaral Manasrr of Railways, stated that to establish electric level crossings in the Doijiiiii<xn would involve a very ccflsiderable expenditure, which could not be undertaken. The Department had already gone to much oxpen so in gpt-tii7g trees cut down, but in some cases difficulty was exporie-neo*! owing to the exorbitant demands of adjoining landowners.
