VANGUARD STREET.
(.To tho Editor of "The Colonist."
Sir, —Early in May last, .nine months ago, it was' meported that Vanguard street, between Hardy street and Haven road, was to be gravelled. At the time: the decision of the Council caused much astonishment among the residents in the vicinity, as the portion of tlie street referred to had scarcely been touched for a great number of years. It was felt that the news was too good to be true*, -and as tilings have turned out such was the case. We wore presented with about three loads of "Maifcai mud" thrown in the gutter where ther« is no traffic, and one load of river gravel, on a .stretch of 200 yards of atrocious road. Many of the lumps of stono measured ovei a foot, and remain as they were thrown down. Surely in niuci monthb tliere has been a little time in which such urgent work could have been done. Many streets carrying far less traffic are always kept in deccsit repair. I am, etc., RESIDENT.
