While lying on the sands at Tahuna, after bathing, on Sunday last, a youth .named Norman Oldershaw, a cadet in th« Telegraph Department, was bitten in tho shoulder by a katipo spider. He was attended by Drs. Bett and Johnston, and is getting on as well as can be expected.
A little girl about seven years of age, daughter of Mr Bishop landlord of the Pier Hotel, while fishing off tho Albion Wharf at the back of the Anchor Company's office about noon yesterday, over-balanced herself and fell into tho water, which was about 14ft deep. Her cries attracted tho attention of Captain Purvis, of the Waverley, who was in tho Anchor office at tho time. Without waiting to divest himself of any clothing he jumped into the water and rescued the child, who was none the worse for her immersion.
Mr W. S. Littlejohn, Principal of Scotch College, Melbourne, and a form er Principal of Nelson Boys' College has been unfortunate in, his vacatio: holidays. Mr Littlejohn came to Ne* Zealand, and was taken ill in Invor cargill, his eyes being badly affected. He hurried to Wellington, and it was there found that he was suffering from diphthcira, and he was taken to tho Hospital. For a time there was apprehension that the sight of both ey<?n would bo lost, but his many friends will bo glad to know that tho last word received is that he is now out of
A wharf labourer named Tredidga had his arm clawed by a lion on thePateena yesterday morning. He inadvortently got close to the cage and the animal struck through the bars. The injury was sufficiently severe to require medical attention.
