TJi:v' railway revenue for the ton months ended January 31st shows an increase, of £251,000 over tho corresponding period in the previous year. Therefore Mr Millar's estimate oi'.increa.TO of £'200,000 in the year's revenue is likely to be considerably exceeded. The increase in revenue has been attended by iucioased expenditure of 120 per cent; that is, it has cost the Department about £65,000 extra to earn the additional £251,000. Tho Minister stated to a "Star" reporter that safety bars were being fitted to the platforms of all carriages to prevent accident in crossing from carriage to carriage. Already 120 carriages had been fitted, and the rest would bo completed in about two months, the- cost being charged to working expenses and not to capital.
