Hospitals and Charitable Institutions.

By the Hospitals- and Charitable Institutions Act of last session, dual control is abolished, and the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board of each district will henceforth control all benevolent institutions except- a few which will continue under their present management, including St. An-' drew's Orphanage, Nelson. The old method of nomination to the Boards by the contributing local authorities is superseded by election on the municipal franchise. The first election of the Nelson Board under the new system will take place on the 16th instant. It is to be hoped that the public will take an active interest in the elections, and that the important duties the Boards will have to discharge will be reposed in capable hands.
