-THE ARNST V. WHELOH MATCH. Special to- "The Colonist;"/ Ghristehurch, Feb.- 21.The race for the sculling championship of. the. world, between It. Arnst, tlie present holder, and George Whelch, of Akaroa, will tako placo at Akaroa on April 2nd, and it is creating a great deal of interest hi Akaroa, where both men are in more or less active training.. Arnst has been ! at Akaroa for a couple of weeks, in company with his trainer, Felton, but he has not yet apparently settled down to real hard training. Webb was expected to have come from Wanganui to train Whelch, but he has nofc yet arrived, and his coming is said to be doubtful; meanwhile Whelch. is out pretty frequently by himself, and is said to be in good condition. The consensus of opinion in Akaroa is that Whelch will give Arnst a very close go for tho racb. Although he is regarded as having a rather slender chance of success, there are not wanting staunch supporters who are quite eloquent regarding Whelch's prospects, and it is said that in the event of rough weather, he being the better seaman in a boat, he would have an advantage. Arnst, however, is said to be in excellent condition. The correspondent of "The Press" writes that Arnst expresses satisfaction at the Akaroa course, considering it far ahead of Nelson, wliich he states is very lumpy.
