FAILURE TO CLEAR NOXIOUS WEEDS.
Alfred Ernest AdroH Fear was charged on the information of Hugh Cleland, Inspector of Noxious Weeds, [ with having failed to clear fennel from ' land in Bridge street attached to the Farmers' Agency Company's premises. Mr Hayes, for defendant, admitted the offence. He submited that it was a case for a minimum penalty. Defendant had leased the property to a man named King, and had depended upon him having the noxious weeds removed. Mr Cleland said that the fennel was - growing seven feet high on the section, b which was in the centre of the town. i Defendant had been given ample - notice (altboxigh it was not necessary), } and the department had since had the 1 land cleared at defendant's expense. - Ho did not press for a heavy penalty. i . A fine of 10s, with 7s costs, was im--1 posed.
