ATTEMPTED INCENDIARISM.

[United Press Association.]

Wairoa, Feb. 7

What is considered a deliberate attempt to burn St. Andrew's schoolroom waa discovered early on Saturday morning by a local solicitor, who was passing the building. He found a box in the porch burning fiercely, Inside it was standing th© top of a tin of kerosene, and in ten minutes the building would have been in flames, involving the new church close by, and also a private dwelling. Incendiarism is strongly suspected.

Th© three year old son of a Methodist minister was with his mother at a gathering of ladies. At th© proper tim© he was .given a cake. He ate it in short order, and asked for another. ' Th© hostess said — "I'll give you another if you will sing for us." "Can't sing," was his reply; "but I know something I can say." "That will do all right," th© lady answered, expecting to hear "Twinkle, twinkle, little star," or som© otheT nursery classic. But the little fellow drew himself up in real Sunday school fashion, and said his piece — "God loveth a cheerful giver." The lady gavei him the cake, and the whole oompany seemed to be rej\y cheerful about it.
