DUNEDIN ANGLICAN SYNOD.
A FACULTY OF THEOLOGY. [United Peess Association.] Dunedin, Oct 26. At tho Anglican Synod to-day the Rev Canon Woodthorpe brought forward a motion. ;iii favour of the establishment of a faculty of theology in the Dominion. In the course of his •remarks tho mover referred to the result of the deliberations of the commission appointed by the last general • synod to. go into the matter. He expressed the opinion that the commission had not done its work in a very satisfactory way, and had not gone very, deeply into the subject. It was very necessary that they should go deepljvinto the question otherwise at no distant date they might regret the decision. He believed the Presbyterians would heartily join them in any effort made to secure the establishment of such a faculty as he suggested.. The decay of faculty of ideas and the affiliation of theological colleges with external universities was a prospect that few of them could look forword to with equanimity. Dean JFitchett .seconded tlie motion, as lie was anxious _to h.©a.i> the Synod make a dennite,,pronbuncement on the subject. There did not seem to be any prospect of getting a faculty of theology in connection with the New .Zealand University owing to the fetish that education smust be absolutely -secular.. The' churches- might well combine .in thismatter. : After a discussion. it; was decided that the Synod suggestto the General Synod that efforts ~be. made -to establish a faculty of theology for the Anglican church- in New Zealand or Australasia. .
