CRICKET.

WIND UP OF AN OLD ESTABLISHED CLUB.

On Saturday evening, at the Commercial Hotel, a rather unusual 1 unction was held i.n connection with a cricket club, when the former members of the Athletic Club dined together "For Auld Lang Syne." The Ulub was formed in 1»85, the Rev. F. W. Chatterton being the first president. Its success was almost exceptional. It 'had won the senior championship seven times, five years being in succession. The removal of many prominent members from the district, the retiring of others, and the establishment or the Old Boys' Cricket Club, contributed to a severe reduction of membership. So much so that the Club's executive were faced with the only alternative of suggesting a wind up. And this was done. The gathering on batuiday was therefore to say Au Revoir to the old club. Mr \V. \V. Squires, president, was in the chair, and Messrs Wm Moyes and ii. Sa.undejs (vice presidents) also attended. Apologies were received from Messrs Kirkpatrick, Sadd, S. Bolton, Cresswoll, Topliss and Neale. After dinner, and the usual loyal toast, the company honoured the president, and vice presidents, Mr A. Clayden expressing appreciation of the valuable service these officials had always rendered. Messrs Squires, Moyes and Saunders responded, all expressing regret at the Club's demise. A. toast to the old Club was drunk' in silence, and Mr Ht-sseltiuc, the secretary, reported that most of the members had affiliated \yith the Nelson Club, and that the liabilities were all met. A toast to the Nelson Club and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" terminated the gathering.
