A GIGANTIC SCHEME.

London, March 18. The Duke of. Sutherland presided at a meeting for the purpose of inaugurating a scheme for the Forth-Clyde canal, estimated to cost £17,000,000. The canal will enable the construction of- shipbuilding and repairing yards in Loch. Lomond, 12 miles outside all possible range of gun fire, and the work will employ 30,000 workmen for a period of nine years. The Duke of Argyll and Lord Brassey supported the scheme. .
