Messrs Bisley Bros and Co. report as follows: , ' - Since our last live stock report a fortnight ago, farmers have been selling and buying freely at our various yards, the prices being satisfactory and the values well 'maintained/ The iittle weakening tendency " at our last sale was caused no doubt by the dry weather we are experiencing, but with ra'iri we predict an advance in prices of Is to ■ 2s per head almost,.immediately. ~ - : , ; '.--_' On Friday last we held our annual ram, store and fat stock sales at Richmond yards. Rams at this • fixture '■ numbered 500, cattle 300, ' and sheep 1 3000. This is really the sale of the j year, farmers always exhibiting greal 1 interest in this event. The attend- . ance was large and bidding good, for ' "all h"nes except rams, which undoubtedly show the: greatest weakness for ■ "years past. This is caused in many : cases through owners carrying on ; their last, year's purchases. Excellent competition was shown for store sheep and; cattle, almost all lots being cleared. Buyers were present from all "parts, and were particularly strong : from .the new settlement, Murcbison ; these latter buyers securing most oi the. lots. The f. olio wing prices were realised:— Romney- Marsh rams, £1 12s 6d tc ■ £3 3s : English" Leicester, £1 12s 6d ■ to £2 17s 6d ; Shropshire, £1 2s 6d to £2 10s; Sputhdowns, £1 10s to £2. For Lincoln and Merino, there was vory little competition, and a few were sold up to £2, but large lots were passed iri. ; ! . Sheep : Good wethers, forward stores--9s 3d to 10s sd ; f ats to 12s ; eNves, good stores, 8s 6d to 10s ; inferior, 5s Id to 7s; young ewes^ two to fourtooth, 10s 3d. Store lambs, for which there-was keen competition, brought ■7s to 8s for good stores ; medium size, os to 6s 6d. • 1 ' Cattle :'Young steers made from £1 9s to £2 2s 6d; heifers in calf, to £1 17s 6d: '-young stores, under ten months, £1 6s to £l^s; well grown three year old heifers to £3 Is; store bullocks,' £3 18s to £4 Is;, fat bullocks £0,12s 6d to £5 17s 6d; heifers and cows, fat, : £5 12s 6d; cows, £3 to £4 ]os. • '"' Pigs: Eat stores made 15s to 21s ; weaners, about 10 weeks old, made 10s to 13s. • ■".' •-',.- Golden Downs.— On Tuesday, the second inst., .we held our first sale. oi station lines at Golden Downs, which ' will in, future bean annual fixture. The attendance was large' _and competition good. Some v 4OOO sheep were yarded, and cattle and horses , "were in good numbers. " The prices realised were satisfactory. . The following are a few of the best 'sales :-rSheep : Ewes, well forward, 2 to 8--1 tooth, 10s; forward wether lambs to 8s; forward ewe lambs. to 8s Id; torward wethers, good proportion fat, 8s to 9s 7d; small half bred lambs 4s 2d and 5s 7d ; crossbred ewes, mixed ages, 7s 7d to 8s lOd; extra good, to 9s 6d. Merino ewes, which were hard to secure, and are wanted,, sold at_bs,_ which was much below their value, seeing Marlborough. is sold out all their surplus . going South .at high 1 rates. ', ; . ' . • ' ■ o - Cattle-: --Well grown calves, 255, forward £3 2s 6d; mixed steers £3: 2s 6d. ■-..■'.• ., • Horses : Competition was very keen here : for horses, most of the", entries, being well'-Jtnown. '-; Sheepskins, -f Large : • well-wooled skins realised 4j'd : t6 5Jd per pound; medium, 3*d.tb 4Jd; inferior, light wool, 2|d to 3Jd; pelts, . 6d each to 2*d per pound. . , Hides- We had considerable entries for this line. 'Light cows made 2id to 3Jd, equal to 18s 9d to 12s each, medium 3Jd to,3?d. equal to 12s 6d to 14s; heavy, 4d to 4sd, -to 15s to 18s:; .' ■ . „.'„,„ Tallow : In tins, equal to 15s 6d per cwt; in boxes, ljd per lb. • Wool: A few sacks were offered and cleared off at 4*d to sjd per lb. Our next skin, tallow, hide, and wool sale will beheld on Thursday, the Ist of April.
