Invercargill, February 3. At the Supreme Court Maud Buchanan was charked with attempting to murder D. W. McKay, with assault with intent, and with unlawfully wounding Yerii McKay. The woman was accused of having fired six chambers from a revolver as the McKays were leaving home in a motor car, strained relations existing on account of anonymous letters. The defence' was that the accused was in a distressed state of mind on account of letters, and fired, only to create a scene in order to put a stop to the annoyance. The jury found the accused not guilty.
