The Rugby Association match New Zealand v. Queensland was an exhibition. There was tine weather but the attendance was small. Wright kicked out and the game in tha first part was considerably in favour of the visitors. The Queenslanders were frequently penalised for breaches of the rules. O'Brien acored for Queensland, but Watson failed to convert. The New Zealandera then took the game in Iheif own hand, and had Queensland in difficulties the whole time. Tyler, Barker, Wynvard, and Lile scored, and Turtlli and Wrigley failed to convert. At half time the scores were: New Zealand 12, Queensland 8, In the second spell Queensland was outclassed by the New 2ealandera, who scored as they liked. Lile scored two tries, and Kowe converted one. McLean, Watson and Hardcastle scored for Queensland. The tinal scores were: New Zealand 34; Queensland 12.

RUGBY UNION CONFERENCE

At the Rugby Union 'Conference held at Wellington a resolution was adopted extending a cordial welcome to the British'team due to arrive in Wellington by the Atbenic.

A sympathetic resolution was adopted concerning the death of Mr A If. Bayly, late president of the Union. .

On the motion for the adoption of the report and balance sheet being put, Mr Pirani asked what information Had been brought before the Management Committee with regard to the conduct of the last New Zealand tedm. in Australia. Intimation was made that nothing was before the committee except the manager's report which made nothing but complimentary reference to the team. With respect to the grant of £200 made for fostering tootball in public school?, Mr Hunter said he was opposed to the spending of £44 in the purchase of trophies, which was really the underlying principles of professionalism. He hoped the incoming Management Committee would bear this in mind when considering the matter this year. He did not object to the payment of travelling expenses in fostering football, but he objected to any expenditure on trophies. Mr Weir expressed the opinion that the British team was coming a couple of seasons too soon to do much good as an educative faotor.

Mr Langsford asked on what terms the British tsam was coming to New Zealand.

Mr Dixon explained that the New Zealacd Union was paying all the expenses. Kule 7 of the Kanfurly Shield regulations be deleted and the following substituted : In all challenge matches xor the shield as distinguished from an ordinary match declared to be n challenge match under Rule 2 the New Zealand Rugby Union shall, H requested by either the challenging , or the challenged union, appoint thr referee. The challenging union, shall be entitled so far as the proceeds of that particular match wil allow, alter payment of all actual ground charges, gate-keepers' wages, advertising and other incidental expenses of the match, to reasonable expenses of transit only incurred by the challenging union in playing the match. Mr Wilford, in seconding th 3 motion, gave it as his (opinion that within the next two years tne only game played in the Dominion would je that under Northern Union rules, not under a professional code, but an amateur. A long discussion took placejranous delegates urging that too much attention snould Dot be paid to gates or the question of pleasing spectators. .-._,,. ■, It was resolved "That the affiliated Unions and Referees' Assoiations be requested to submit to the Management Committee suggestions for the improvement of the game wilnia two months, and that the proposals of the ManagementfcCommittee and the suggestions be forwarded to the English Rugby Union as soon as convenient, with a request that they may be dealt with before next season. ' "^ , A lengthy discussion took place on the question of professionalism, but a number of suggestions submitted on behalf of the Wellington Rugby Union were rejected. , . . On behalf of the Otago Union, it was moved by Mr F. H. Campbell : T[hat it be an instruction to the committee of management to rearrange the programme for the tour of the British team by substituting test tnatches for the matches South Island v. British team on June 6th, at Dunedin, and North Island v. British team on July 25tb, at Auckland- • j i o» The resolution was Carried by 26 votes to 12. The extra tests will be played re» spectively at Dunedin on June 6th ana at Auckland on July 25th, in place of the matches against tne South and North Island teams ra-* spectively, as originally proposed. Mr Humphries moved, on behalf of the Taranaki Union:— That the New Zealand Union set up a committee to consider the question of instituting a scheme of accident insurance to cover all footballers in the Domicibn'under Its jurisdiction.
