THE COAL STRIKES

ACTION BY THE MINERS' FEDERATION.

Sydney, March 19.

A strike of clipppers at the Pelawmain colliery and a strike of wheelers at the Back Creek mine have thrown idle both pits. Strikes are now in progress hi four pits, and as a result of the stoppage the sittings of the special Mining Court have been brought to a standstill.

Tan Miners' Federation has decided to adopt more stern methods in dealing with these hasty and ill-ad-vised strikes on behalf, of various sections of colliery workers, and has adopted a resolution calling on the strikers to resume work immediately, failing this to be expelled from the Federation, and also calling on the lodges concerned to use every effort to keep tbe respective pits going. The resolution adds: ' ' We think the time baa arrived when each lndge should .realise its respons ibility, and force its members to keep within the constitution o* the federation. ' '
