WHARF EXTENSION.
Mr Harry Atmore has supplied us with the following information concerning the wharf extenson, which he has received in a communication from Wellington : — The works will be started almost immediately, and will be carried out by the Kailwaj Department. It is proposed to extend the east end of the wharf in a north-easterly direction for a distance of four hundred feet, and the south-westerly end for three hundred feet, towards the Anchor Shipping Company's wharf. The whole of the harbor immediately adjacent to the wharves is to be dredged to a greater depth. The present wharf is to be repaired wherever necessary, and these two works, together with the work of extension, goods sheds, etc., is estimated to cost from £20,000 to £25,000, and the work will probably take three and a half years to complete. The citizens are to be congratulated upon the extensive additions to be undertaken, and also upon it being a tangible recognition of the growing importance of the Port.
