To-morrow afternoon at Hawera the local, reps will play the Taranaki reps., and on Thuisday they will meet the Wanganui reps at Wangaoui. On Saturday the Manawatu reps will be played at Palmerston North. Petition tb Parliament. —A petition is being circulated piaying Parliament to pass a Bill this session to prohibit the granting or renewal of bottle licenses in any part of the ColoDy. Westport Poultry Show. —Private advices received state that the South Island championship for Game classes, at the Westport Show, was won by Mr William Ooleman, of Richmond, who won five ;first prize tickets in the seven classes in which he exhibited. As this is the second time in succession that Mr Coleman has won the J^Game championship, the accompanying trophy now becomes his own property. King Edward has accepted a copy of the "Life and Work of Mr Seddon," sent to him by the publishers, Messrs Whitcombe and Toombs, some months' ago. Fire.—At 6.45 last evening a fire was discovered in a recently built iron shed at the baok of Oakey's engineering works.in Bridge street. A glare was noticed by Mr F. Moore, who live 9 next door, and on closer observation he saw the beams of the shed on fire near a furnace. Constable Kelly, who was passing at the time was called, and with Mr Moore, extinguished "the fire with a couple of buckets! of. water. The furnace is set in the ground in a wooden frame, which apparently became overheated and caused the outbreak.
