NELSOM TRADES AND LABOR COUNCIL

Tkeannual meeting of the Nelson Trades Council was held in the Union Rooms, "Wakefield Buildings, on Thursday night. The minutes were confirmed, after which the officers were elected for the ensuing year. Re the expenses of the recent Municipal elections, the Secetary read a report of expenditure, and a motion was passed instructing him to forward copies of same to the Unionsjcontributing the expenses. Be the Federation of Labor proposals from the Conference Executive, the Secretary was instructed to get sufficient copies, and forward one to each Union for their consideration. Letter from Trades Council re the j Shipping Subsidy, held over pending further information. Re the Flour Trust, the following resolution was endorsed: — "That the Government be urged to enter into pompetition with the Flour Trust as a means to secure a cheaper loaf. " The Unions to be asked to pass the same. Workers' Representative on the Arbitration Court: After considerable discusison, in whioh it was the almost unanimously expressed opinion of the delegates prese.it, that the Conference had done t. c right thing by nominating Mr J. A. McCullagh as the Workers' representative on the Court. A resolution instructing the Secretary to communicate with all the Unions affiliated to this Oounoil urging that they support the decision of the representative body of organised Labor in New Zealand, the Trades and Labor Conference. Letter from Mr H. G. Ell, informing the Council that a poll for rat-

ing on the unimproved value can be secured at any time, piovided that sufficient signatures to the requisition can be secured. The Secretary was instructed to procure more peti^ tion forms, and distribute same to canvassers. Tariff revision, was held over till a special meeting called for that purpose only daring the next fortnight.
