MISCELLANEOUS. New Plymouth, June 20. For eight sections of land, from 217 to lOil acres in extent, in various parts of the district, ballotted for to-day, by the Laud Board, fthore were 186 applicants. ChristcLuirch, June 20. The Canterbury Acclimatisation Society recently wrote to tbe Colonial Secretary, asking that steps be taken to remove from the WaimaUariri river the seals recently shown at the Exhibition ani liberated when the great show closed. Tbe reason for asking was tnut the seals were destroying trout. At la si night's meeting of the Council of the Society a letter was read stating tfiat the mater would receive con^s'deration. Members stated! that it would be unnecessary to takejiction, as the seals had disappeared, 'and it waa understood that there was no fear of them appearing again. Another member suggested that thoy had been shot, but the query met with no response. Dunedin, June 20. The Law Societies are- obtaining data of the number and class of cases heard in the District Court, with a view to assisting the Attor-ney-General in hig scheme of proposed Judicial reform. The Education Board has carried the following resolution in reference to the Department's circular containing new regulations touching the conveyance of. children in back blocks to 'school :--That this Board, recognising that the regulations for the conveyance of children issued on June 4th are a slight advance upon those previously in operation, point out that they still fall far short of meeting requirements. The Board again submit that the only satisfactory mode of dealing with the subject will be to place the matter of conveyance unrestrictedly in the bands of the local Boards, trusting them to deal with each case upon its merits, and with due legard to economical administration." Auckland, June 20. Dr James Dalziel wes charged at the Police Court to-day with performing an unlawful operation on a young woman at Auckland on June 11th. [t was stated that the woman concerned is in the hospital unable to appear at present. The accused was remanded for eight days on his own bond of j-200, and two other sureties of £100 each.
