There was some searching criticism but it was not unfriendly. Mr Haldane emphasised the remarkable response of the country, and the, support the scheme was promised. He said thirty-five shipping firms at Liverpool and nineteen firms in London bad determined to give preference in the selection qf holidays to those of their men desirous of going into camp, besides giving them an extra week of holidays.
