Sir Joseph dealt with various subjects, including the Land^Bill and the Native Land proposals, much on the same lines as fin previous speeches. Ho made an announcement in regard to the Land Bill, 1 saying that next seseion the endowment proposals would be brought forward in a separate measure, it being considered that the House would be able to come to a judgment on the matter with more ease if the subject were separated from the question ofjtenures and other portions ■ of the bill There would also be introduced an alteration in the tariff, which would be dealt with in the direction of removing duties from the necessaciws of life, and per mitting raw material required to be used for manufactures in the colony to come'in free of duty. The alterations generally speaking would gc not upon the lines of extreme proi tection, but on the lines of judiciously building up our industries. . There were other matters which i would probably- be dealt with, mii eluding the classification and superannuation system for" the whole oi i the\State servants. At the concluI sion of his address, a vote of thanks to the Premier, and an assurance oi the confidence and good will of the people on the eve of his departure ; to England to attend the Imperial Conference was accorded to Sir Joseph, on the motion of Mr J. Evans, the vice-chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. Sir Joseph Ward leaves on Monday evening for Sydney en route to England.
