RECKLESS USE OF A REVOLVER.

A MAN WOUNDED. Whangarei, October 29. While making for a bank on the Whangarei river yesterday afternoon, two residents named Wilkinson and Hughes were startled by the report of a revolver, and the impact of the bullet striking a maagrove tree within a few feet of their position. On looking back they saw an old man on the other dide of the river, which is narrow in this place, levelling a revolver apparently at the boat. Three shots afterwards were tired in quick succession, one hitting Wilkinson on the thigh, and ricochetting off. Hughes flung himself into the bottom of the boat just in time to escape receiving this bullet in his head. When the Police spoke to the old man, from whom they took the weapon, the latter said he was merely practising. Legal proceedings will probably ensue.
