SWALLOWED A WATCH.

A mishap, highly amusing to those who witntssed it, but doubtless anything but humorous, to the . victim, occurred at a comic singing . and variety contest at Preston, England, in July. After giving an exhibition of coin swallowing, one of the competitors tried to swallow a watch, which he borrowed from the wife of the proprietor of the show. He swallowed the watch all right: in fact, too well, for he conlj not get i% back. The poor fellow went outside the marquee and and stood on his head against a wall, but the watch could net be moved. The conjurer eventually coughed up tbe watch, along with three penny pieces.
