NELSON BOWLING CLUB.
ANNUAL GENEKAL MEETING. The annual gener.il meeting of the Nelson Bowling Club was held at the Co-operative Association Kcoms on June 21. Mr W, Moyes (President) occupied the cbair, and there was a good attendance) of members, j Minutes wore confirmed, and the Secretary (Mr J. Sharp, junior) presented the annual report, in which it was stated that the membership stood at 83, aud eflorts should be made to bring it up to one hunrded. Regret was expressed at tho death of Mr Henry Edwards, an ox-Pmsideot of the Club,and an enthusiast iv the game. A wreath and letter of condolence were forwarded to Mrs Edwards on behalf of the Club. The winners of the various club matches were given as follows:—Championship, £1. N. tf alder; LyeJl Cup,jj. Kucherford President's prize, D. \V net and E. H. Bisley ; Vice-Presi-dent's prjz,e, J. Sharp, junior; Junior Championship, W. W Clifford ; Club Kiuk I -'Feathers") games: W. Kout (skip), Squires, R. B. Jackson and Houlker: Rev. W. S. Lucas' prizes^ Watt and W. G. Kerr; Mr Rutherford's tropny, E. E. Trask. Reference ;wa« made to the pleasure the Club had experienced in playing oh their own greea the Wellington, Newtown and Blenheim Club®. Refereuce was also made to the institution of the "Pennant matches between, tbo Nelson and Muitai Clubs, the Nelson Club holding the "Pennant* as tho result of the contest. Tho club contests between the juniors of the two clubs wore also referred to ss providing some good games. Tho annual charges bad been increased by the newly leased extra portion of ground, and a matter that would require to be taken inta consideration was the improvement of that portion of the ground, The green had been kept in good order, but the ditches required opening and the green better drained. Thanks were expressed to the ladies for providing and presiding at the afternoon tea, those who had given trophies, and the ladies who had provided the "Pennant." The balance sheet and statement of accounts were presented by the Treasurer (Mr P. Topliss). The statement of receipts and expenditure showed that the year's transaction resulted in a small credit balance, while the statement? of assets and liabiilties showed a substantial balance of assets over liabilities-. The President, in moving the adoption of the report and accounts, emphasised the necessity for increasing the membership and strengthening tho club. He also expressed regret that the club had neglected tho opportunity of competing at tho tournaments held under the auspices of the Northern Bowling Association. Tho motion was seconded by Mr Hounsell and carried. The election of officers resulted as follows: — President, Dr Hamilton; Vice-Preßident, Mr E. E. Trask; Hon. Treasurer, Mr P. Topliss (reeloctod); Hon. Secretary, Mr W. W. Clifford ; General Committee: Messrs Watt, Houlker, Rev. W. £5. Lucas, E. H. Bisley, Moyes, Baigent, and E. J. Allon; Match Cormnittwe: Messrs E. Traak, Watt (re-elected) and Rev. J. P. Kempthorne; Auditors: Messrs Watt and Cresswell. After a few remarks from the retiring President, tbo President-elect took the chair and appropriately expressed his thanks for tbo honor done him and his determination to do all in his power to further the success of the club. It was resolved to enter on tbo minutes an expression of deep regret, felt, by the club at the loss by death of Mr Henry Edwards. Mr Stevens,on behalf of the ladies, thanked the club for tho concession by which the ladies were allowed to play. Prizes v?cro then presented, votes of thanks passer! to tho past officers and committee, the ladies connected with both clnbs and tho meeting terminated at ten o'clock.
