' Dunedin, February 14. The Chairman of the Westport Coal Company, at the annual meeting of shareholders, referring to the increase of the insurance fund, said the directors were anxious to take large risks in future, and thus save paying the premiums to insurance companies. If thoy increased all risks with the latter the premiums would amount to £7000. yearly. Judging from past experience of large risks the Company could prudently itself take them and do better. The insurance reserve now stood at £33,000 The expenses of management were a trifle less last year, but the lates and taxes had increased. The profit on the coal account had- been considerably reduced, owing to keen competition from Newcastle and local mines.
