VISIT OF GOVERNMENT POMOLOGIST.

Mr J. 0. Blackmore, the Government Pomologist, will address fruit growers in the various centres as pel dates notified in this issue by advertisement, commencing at Wakefielc on Monday next. The addresses will deal with general fruit culture, with special information as to the selection of suitable and profitable varieties of trees, and the preparation and application of insecticides and fungicides. Mr Blackmore has already given an address at Mobueka, and is gratified at the interest displayed. He will give two further addresses at that important fruitgrowing centre, dealing with the selection of varieties and insecticides and fungicides in separate addresses. We learn that on the whole Mr blackmore is very well pleased with the progress of the fruitgrowing industry in the district, and the large number of applications for information received by him go to show that the existence of the Government Pomologist is appreciated, at the same time he confesses to a feeling of disappointment that in view of the statement that a resident Pomologist is desired no steps have been taken during the present visit by the fruitgrowers themselves to ar range for meetings at which he could deliver addresses. He very strongly urges growers to consult with him as to the most suitable and profitable varieties to plant, feeling that the growers wiil receive benefit. Mr Blackmore will be pleased to arrange for demonstrations to be 2«ven in a convenient orchard on the lay following his address in the districts visited.
