THE TEST MATCH, Melbourne 1 , January 6. Tyldesley gave several chances, but his score under the circumstances was a splendid effort. Hill and Trumper's partnership raised the hopes of the A ustralians somewhat, but with their dismis3al the innings resolved itself into a dismal procession. Rhodes was the hero of the contest. With a wicket to suit him, he got 15 wickets for 124, and had half a dozen chances missed off him. Xao English fielding was bad.
