AUSTRALIAN MAILS.
Melbourne, January 6. The smart passage of the s.s. Manuka has raised the question of carrying mails via the Cape instead of Suez. By the latteV route the average is 31H days, while the passage from Southampton to the pape occupies 11 days, and it is believed that a 16-day service could be maintained from the Cape to Melbourne.
