NELSON RIFLES TRAINING CAMP.

The members of this corps, 56 strong, paraded at the Government Buildings on Sunday evening, in full marching orderj and shortly after proceeded to the Botanical Reserve for the annual week's fnstruc : tion, the bugler arid drummer tutleing the men thereto. The camp is pitched on similar lines to last years, the only addition being a marque which* is attached to the company's tent for meals and instructional purposes, and an officers mess tent. The camp commenced early yesterday morning, lasfc night's parade being a special one for camp instruction and tent pitching, and the men were busy till dark fixing matters up under the superintendence of Sergt.Major Healy. Major Wolfe was also present, and two visiting officers, Captain Kenny (Waitohi Rifles) and Lieut. Parker (Blenheim. Rifles) were on the ground. The weather up to the present has not been too favorable, but there are plenty, of facilities for instruction in the event of wet. At the end of the week good progress should have been made with the new drill. The following is the programme for the evenings of the week after parades :— To-night, social and euchre tournament to Defence Rifle Club"; Wednesday, Government inspection parade ; Thursday, lecture by Major Littlejohn ; Friday, open air musical performance by the Garrison Band, in aid of their funds. Mr Carter, as usual, undertakes the cooking. The marquee is lighted with acetylene. One new member •wa3 elected last night, bringing the strength to 65.
