Wanganxji, May 22. The first day of the Wanganui Jockey Club's Winter Meeting was showery, but there was a large attendance and big fields. A sum of £7431 was put through the machine against £6453 for the same day last year. The results were : — Flying Stakes : Ostiak 1, Lady Bell 2, West Guard 3 ; dividends, £3 4s and £10 3s. Grand Stand Steeplechase : Scallywag l,Waitio 2, Lochade 3 ; dividends, £3 2s 6d and £3 4s 6d. . Maiden Hack : Ghoorka 1, Durable 2, The Guesser3; dividends, £1 9s 6d and £1 6s. Century Hurdles : Waiwera 1, The Guard- 2, Koseplot 3 ; dividends, £3 16s 6d and £1 13s. First Hack Hurdles : Great Scott 1, Hatuma 2, Old Gun 3 ; dividend, £2 16s 6d. Hunters' Steeplechase : Hutana 1, Jack o' Lantern 2, New Zealand 3 ; dividends, £2 14s 6d and £1 4s 6d. Hack Flat : Lifebelt 1, Dexterity 2, Ontario 3 ; dividends, £5 7s and £2 13s.
