NELSON DIAMOND JUBILEE COMMITTEE.
There was a large attendance of the abovenamed Committee at the meeting held on April 28, when his Worship the Mayor (Mr H. Baigent) presided. Mr Smart, the Secretary, presented the. balance sheet, which showed the receipts to have been £546 7s 9d, and the expenditure .£516 Ss lOd, leaving a credit balance of £29 18s lid. Some discussion took place on the Finance Committee paying the balance due on the banquet account without first consulting the Executive Committee, several members expressing their opinion that the Finance Committee had exceeded their duty in so doing. The members of the latter Committee contended that the banquet was an important function of the Jubilee celebrations, and they considered they had the right to. deal with the account in question just the same as they dealt with the other accounts. The receipts showed that there were received: — £ s. d. Subscriptions . . ... 198 16 2 Military sports. Fireworks- (not including cost of erection) 78 "19 1 Ball (including rent of hall) 42 15 0 Old settlers' luncheon. 37 5 0 Military sports expenses 38 11 5 Regatta expenses . . 20 0 0 Train fares for children (including orphans) 22 9 1 The Secretary . . . . 20 0 0 Banquet 16 12 3 Garrison Band . . . . 34 0 0 Printing and atlvertis- - ing in the local and outside papers . . 52 8 6 Labor, decorations, and entertaining the bluejackets also absorbed respectable sums. Resolved, That five guineas be voted to the Stoke Orphanage Band for their services. Kesolved, That the Finance Committee finally deal with tue audited balance-sheet. Eesolvecl, That the £24 odd be placed in the names of Messrs H. Baigent and Maginnity, in trust, in the Post Office Savings Bank, for the purpose of any public function which may be authorised at a pnb'ic meeting of citizens called by the Mayor of Nelson. A vote of thanks -was accorded to the Press for its valuable services. A special vote of thanks was accorded to the Mayor for the vast amount of trouble he had been to, and attending every Committee meeting. Three hearty cheers were also given for Mr Baigent, and thus the final proceedings of the Jubilee Committee closed.
