The Victoria College Scholarships.

. WeUilNoton, January 17. There were 109 candidates this year for the Victoria College scholarships, against 144 last year. Others entered who did not sit. Mr T. W. Howe, examiner, makes the following awards in order of merit:— Anaatasia J. Slowey, Wwtjiort ; Biohard J,

Larking and W. Wilson, Wellington ; H. O'Lsary, Masterton; Elsie M. Bollinger, Omata. Five other candidates got over 60 per cent of full marks. The weakest subjects were history and geograpny. This year the candidates had to gain one-third of the marks in every subject, instead of half marks in three. Mr Rowe thinks this a mistake, as non-success in one subject, like science or drawing, may lose an otherwise capable candidate his scholarship.
