SHOOTING.

HALLENSTEIN BROS.' TROPHY. The annual competition between the adult corps for Messrs Hallenstein Bros.' trophy was commenced on the previous Saturday and terminated on February 12th, the Mudflat range, the trophy being won by the Stoke Rifles with great ease. By winning the trophy twice in succession, it becomes their own property, according to the conditions. On the first day the Stoke Rifles had a lead of 19 over the Coast Guards, 42 over the Waimea Rifles, and 71 over the H Battery. The totals of the first five men registered as follows — Stoke Rifles, 289 ; Coast Guards, 270 ; Waimea Rifles, 247; H Battery, 218. On Saturday afternoon the champions drew away from the other competitors, and won by the large margin of 99 points over the Waimeas, 100 over the Coast Guards, and 130 over the Battery. For second place the Waimeas just defeated the Coast Guards by one point. The points scored by the five men on Satur- j day were— Stoke Rifles, 332 ; Waimea Rifles, 275; Coast Guards, 270; H Battery, 273. The highest scorers in each team were — Captain Bryant (Waimea), 78; Corporal J. W. Ching (Stoke), 75 ; P.O. Sherwood (Coast Guards), 70; Gunner M. Jaokson (Battery), 69. On both Saturdays the riflemen were troubled by a perplexing wind, and some of the shooting at the last range was miserable, some of the marksmen putting on totals of 4, 5, and 6 in seven shots. The conditions were — Ten men per team ; seven shots at ranges 300, 500, and 600 yards. The following are the scores :— Stoke Rifles.
