ANNIVERSARY HOLIDAY.
The Railway Department had a heavy day on Feb. lst for in addition to arranging a timetable to suit the trotting races, there were large numbers to be conveyed to more distant stations. The first train, at nine o'ciook went right through to Norris* Gully, and this was a very large train, conveying a large contingent for the Motupiko sports, a still larger number who availed themselves of the run throhgh the tunnel and then returned to picnic in the bush at this end, and a very large party of tbe Wesleyan
Sunday School picnicers, who got out at Wai-iti, bound for Watson's bush, \shere they had a real good time. There was a food deal of "rumbling at the delay in connection with this train, which reached its destination about three quarters of an hour late, but even railway people cannot perform impossihilitc-s, and with only a certain amount of rolling stock it is not possible to cope with extraordinary traffic without some inconvenience, and better that than that any undue haste should lead to accident.
