GOVERNMENT DISTRICT MEDALS.
Thb firing for the Government medals has been conducted during the past week by the marksmen of the headquarter corps, under the supervision of Captain Littlejohn, Adjutant, and Sergt-Major Healy, the former being at tbe firing point, and the latter in the butts during the Bhooting. In this quarter there there were 34 marksmen, 24 of whom fired. There were eight absentees from the Stoke Bifles, and one eaah from tbe H Battery and Waimea Bifles. The Stoke Bifles hold a remarkably fine position in the competition, the firßt five being from that corp3, and they are the only competitors sooring 90 points and over. The Bhooting by Private J. W. Uhing, who scored 104 points out of a posßibla of 120, is splendid, whilst Sergeant J. L. Ching was only two points behind with 102. The former's targets read : 200 yardß, standing 3444443434—37; 300 yards, kneeling, 2323343434-31; 500 yards, lying down, 4444343244—36; total, 104. Hib brother's excellent soore also deserves detailing, and riads: 2443444233-33; 3442233444—33; 4444343244—36 ; total, 102. Ten Bbota were fired at eaoh range ; bull's-eye 4 ; inner,~3 ; outer, 2.
